Expanded Polystyrene Production

EEI manufactures Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) in different densities and sizes to be used for several purposes.

EPS Characteristics EPS Advantages
Heat resistant Energy saving
Low thermal conductivity Low material / installation costs
High permanent R -value Broad range of densities and sizes
High compressive strength Easy to handle and apply
Excellent stock absorption Simple to cut and shape
Excellent dimensional stability Tolerates broad range of temperatures
Low water absorption Doesn’t irritate skin
Reflective white color Restricts moisture penetration
Non – dusting Does not deplete the Earth ozone layer
Will not rot, mildew or support bacterial growth
Resistant to most acids and alkalis

EEI Expanded Polystyrene is rigid and light – weighted. By controlling the density of expanding beads during the manufacturing process, EEI can custom produce insulation materials according to the specific requirements of customers applications. EEI production of Expanded Polystyrene boards and injection molded boards are in conformity with the British Standard specification BS 3837 : 1977 for expanded Polystyrene boards, DIN and ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials).

Type N (Normal): It consists of 100% of closed cell polystyrene expandable beads.

Type A (Fire Retardant): It is similar to Type N, but meets additional requirements for the extent of burn when tested with the method given by virtue of BS 4735. This requirement is met by the incorporation of flame retardant additives and other appropriate modifications.

Thickness and Tolerances:
Thickness can be cut as required, from 8 mm up to 1120 mm. On specified thickness, length, and width, tolerance will be + – 2 mm.

Cut boards:
The large molded blocks are hot wire cut on flat lines at any desired thickness, width, and length. In addition, EEI CAD / CAM capabilities provide its customers with an infinite variety of standard, customs, and redius products. Cut boards are boards cut from a block molded from expanded beads, which could be fine, very fine, or coarse grain. Used raw materials could be of general purpose (type N material) or fire retardant category (type A material).

Molded Boards:
Molded boards are boards of injection molded from expanded beads, that has surface skin on all sides and molded edges.

Applications of expanded polystyrene insulation:

Insulation of roofs, walls, and floors – Prefab houses and
Sound insulation
Molded pipe insulation for air conditioning
Insulation of hot and cold water lines
Expansion joints
Hourdis and void formers
Insulation of deep – freeze rooms, cold stores, cold display
cabinets and refrigerated vehicles
Pipe insulation
 Wall insulation inserts
Buoys – buoyancy for
boats – floats for fishing nets
Gypsum panels
Fish and vegetables
Decorative shapes and display models

It is noteworthy that Polystyrene packaging is quite various

Multi – purpose polystyrene boxes:

Multi – purpose polystyrene boxes are moulded containers and covers manufactured from heavy – duty grade expanded polystyrene to ensure high insulation performance. The steaming process provides virtual sterility against bacterial contamination and keeps low temperatures very long time, depending on the storage and exposure time to outdoor temperature.

Usages of the polystyrene boxes:

-Fish packing for export
-Chicken and vegetables
-Catering and market distribution
-Picnic, fishing, etc.
-Transport of precision tools and instruments
-Transport of plasma vaccines and medical supplies.

Styropack packaging:

The Styropack is “star – shaped” and “chip – shaped” expanded polystyrene loose fill packaging. Loose fill materials have come firmly established in the modern packaging industry.

They make possible the use of automated packaging lines while giving outstanding protection of the contents. Loose fill EPS is particularly suitable for packaging items which are fragile, have awkward shapes, have low volume production, and can benefit from simple automated packaging.
Besides, the material can be reused.

Indeed, the applications for “Styropack Packaging” are widespread.
-Protection for sensitive precision instruments and fragile items, such as porcelain
-A clean packaging for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals
-Excellent load bearing abilities give a secure cocoon for heavy items
-Good insulation providing protection from extreme temperature.

Principles of Packaging:

“Styropack” offers the best protection form impact because of the interlocking action resulting from the star and chip design, thus keeping the article well – fixed within its container and avoids settlement. In the event of shock, the Styropack cushion around the contents will absorb the impact energy.

Injection Moulded Expanded Polystyrene
Roofmaster is the trade name of injected closed cell expanded blue polystyrene panels. It features excellent thermal insulation properties, high compressive strength and very low absorption.

Application of roofmaster for inverted membrane roofs:

Roofmaster panels are recommended for any application requiring efficient thermal insulation, good resistance to moisture, and high mechanical strength.
By virtue of its high compressive strength and low water absorption, Roofmaster is ideal for the thermal insulation of inverted membrane roofs. Roofmaster panels can be covered with concrete (or other material with sufficient loads capacity) to enable adequate ballasting and protection from U.V radiation, rain and storms. Water absorption by Roofmaster panels is very low and has practically no adverse effect on thermal insulation.

Roofmaster is a closed – cell polystyrene manufactured by the injection process. Roofmaster panel contains a flame retardant additive and is classified as difficulty – flammable building material. Roofmaster panels are moulded and have no cut sides.

Resistance to chemicals and outdoor exposure:

The resistance of Roofmaster to chemicals, solvents, and aging is very much the same as that of the polystyrene (Extruded or cut-cell surface boards), from which it has been derived. Roofmaster is immune to water and aqueous solution of salts, most acids and alkalis. Bonding Roofmaster with emulsion or contact adhesive and bitumen will not affect its physical properties.

Roofmaster panels can be worked with conventional wood working tools. The panels could be bound together with hot bitumen, dispersion – type structural or special adhesives. Instructions for use and safety precautions relating to the adhesive must be observed.

Unlike extruded panels, roofmaster is very stable in high temperatures; it does not warp and would not cause problems which often happen with other boards.

Graphite EPS

We purchase graphite polystyrene beads, which are made through the integration of high-purity graphite particles into polystyrene beads to create the raw material. We then convert this material through our state of the art machinery and processes in manufacturing to rigid boards that are dark grey in color and provide significantly improved energy efficiency, which can provide up to 20% more energy savings than the traditional white EPS insulation
